Boot labels can be confusing. Here is what the three most common sole types mean and when to wear each on an artificial pitch.
TF: turf shoes
Dozens of small rubber nubs spread pressure evenly. Best for short-pile 5-a-side turf and box cricket arenas.
AG: artificial grass
Shorter, hollow studs designed for long-pile 3G pitches. A good all-round choice if you play on different grounds.
FG: firm ground
Long bladed studs meant for natural grass. Avoid these on turf: they grip too hard and are the leading cause of twisted knees.
