Box cricket is booming across India. Learn the common rule variations before your next indoor or turf match.
Box cricket packs the excitement of the game into a netted turf that fits a handful of players per side. Rules vary from venue to venue, but most follow the same basics.
Scoring
- Runs are scored by running between the creases, just like regular cricket.
- A ball hitting the side nets on the full is usually 2 runs.
- A ball hitting the back net is 4, and a direct hit on the roof is often 6 or out, depending on the venue.
Dismissals
Bowled, caught and run out apply. Many venues also count a ball caught off the net as out, so check the house rules posted at the ground.
Overs and teams
Six to eight players per side and 6 to 8 overs an innings keeps a match under an hour, which fits neatly into a single booking slot.
